James Wan‘s Aquaman has earned over $1 billion, joining its fellow DC flicks The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises in the billion-dollar club. Not to mention, Aquaman ($1.075 billion at the time of writing) is so incredibly close to succeeding The Dark Knight Rises ($1.084 billion) as the highest-grossing movie for DC Comics.

Sources tell Deadline that Warner Bros. are real keen on bringing Wan back to direct the sequel. Wan, who also has The Conjuring films to his name, will oversee the development of the sequel, which includes selecting the writers, and then make his decision once he sees the final script. In other words, the script has to be a bloody winner.

Aquaman, which stars total unit Jason Momoa in the lead role, chucks us into the world of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry, the reluctant heir to underwater kingdom Atlantis. With the surface world and Atlantis on the brink of war, Arthur must confront who he really is in order to bring peace to his worlds.

Amber Heard costars as Mera, Aquaman’s fierce warrior ally; William Dafoe as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; The Conjuring’Patrick Wilson stars as the King of Atlantis; big dude Dolph Lundgren as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta; and Nicole Kidman as Arthur’s mama Atlanna. Julie Andrews also has a small part in the film, voicing that ginormous beast Karathen.

Aquaman is in cinemas now.
