According to Box Office Mojo, Aquaman has netted a cool $1.090 billion at the worldwide box office, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises at $1.084 billion. As Deadline points out, Aquaman hasn’t even released in Japan yet so expect a whole lot more $$$.

For a bit of perspective, the 2017 movie Justice League – which chucked Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman in the same team, made $658 million at the global box office. Aquaman out-earned Justice League in its second weekend.

Yeah, bloody hell.

Over this past weekend it was announced Warner Bros. were already in talks with director James Wan for a sequel. However Wan, who also has the Conjuring franchise to his name, isn’t 100 per cent on-board yet. The director will oversee the development of the sequel, which includes selecting the writers, before he makes up his mind. But ultimately, he’ll only sign on if the script is extraordinary.
