Andy Samberg Went On An “Apology Tour” At NBC After They Saved ‘B99’

Brooklyn Nine-Nine frontman and all round cool, cool, cool, cool dude Andy Samberg hopped on Conan a little while ago to talk about the show, particularly how the ultimate network/genius NBC saved the series when Fox pulled the plug on it.

This was glorious news for the cast, crew, and their army of fans but as Samberg recalled – things felt a little awkward for him at first.

Back when Brooklyn Nine-Nine was just a beautiful idea waiting to take flight, Samberg was killing it on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The actor spent a good seven years (2005-2012) on the show building his career and really calling NBC home so it kinda sucked when they first turned down B99.

“NBC, when we first took ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ out, passed on it. And I was coming off ‘SNL’ and I felt very close to everyone at NBC so I took it very personally,” Samberg explains to Coco.

Fair enough.

So what does Samberg do?

“I kind of told everyone there to ‘Go to Hell’ and then I kind of rolled down to the NBC building and swiped things off people’s desks.”

MMMMMM.

“I was pretty ticked. I went out to the mail room and punk’d some people. So suffice to say the last month or so has been an apology tour… but we’re very happy to be back.”

Well, there you go. And despite the swiping-things-off-desks, remarks to go to Hell, and all the shit Samberg pulled, it’s all water under the bridge. As we found out last weekend, NBC ordered five additional episodes for season six which brings its original 13-episode season to 18.

Coco and Samberg then talk about the very dark period in which the world learned about the show’s cancellation and how social media was inundated with passionate fans demanding a network to save the show. Even celebrities got involved including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mark Hamill as did the Dalai Lama who very much and 100 per cent tweeted “Just heard about Brooklyn 99 – so maybe there is no god?”

Very much happened.

Season six of Brooklyn Nine Nine is expected to hit NBC midseason 2019. For AustraliaSBS Viceland will fast track the goods.

Elsewhere, season five of B99 will hit Netflix, September 28.

Not long now.
