Wrap Your Eyes Around The Already Messy First Look At The New ‘Amazing Race Australia’

Amazing Race Australia season 4.

One of the fundamental principles of designing a successful reality TV show is to make sure that its format not only facilitates but encourages arguments. With the exception of perhaps Terrace House and perhaps The Great British Bake Off, people are watching reality TV shows to see contestants get mad at each other. Whether it’s because they are one of a few dozen women simultaneously dating one featureless man in a suit, because they are all trapped on an island together plotting betrayal against one another, or just because they are hammered drunk, viewers are tuning in to see a bunch of otherwise unremarkable people scream at each other over something entirely meaningless and made up for TV.

For The Amazing Race, the source of the arguments is something much less sinister: Travelling is stressful. Getting from one city to another is hard enough without also having to solve puzzles and undertake challenges, and this stress frequently expresses itself as husbands and wives or mothers and sons or business partners or best friends or cousins or whatever sit grumpily in the back of tuk-tuks and pointedly don’t look at or speak to each other.

If this is that good shit which you have been craving, I have most tremendous news — your first look at the upcoming next season of The Amazing Race Australia is here! Get this into ya:

The show will be airing on Channel 10, and is expected to be kick off sometime this year. This season will be hosted by former NRL player Beau Ryan and will be offering up a cash prize of 250,000 big ones to whichever one of the 11 teams is willing to be the rudest to cab drivers.

The show hasn’t graced in the airwaves in Australia since back in 2014, which surely will have left a bunch of die-hard ‘Raceheads’ (that’s what they call themselves) frothing for more action.
