Alden Ehrenreich Just Let Slip That He’s Playing Han Solo In Three Movies

Alden Ehrenreich may or may not have gotten himself into some pretty serious strife with the corporate overlords at Disney, after he casually let slip that he has signed on to play Han Solo in not one but three movies for the studio.

The actor made his comments while promoting the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story in an interview with Esquire, then quickly realised what he’d done. Here’s how it goes down in the relevant chunk of their cover story:

He knows what he’s getting into. It’s a deeper commitment than just one movie. Even Ford couldn’t quit after just one. I ask Ehrenreich how many he’s signed up for. “Three,” he says, then flinches, understanding he may have just created a disturbance in the Force. “I don’t know if that’s officially, uh, public. But – yeah.”

So there you have it, I guess. While Disney hadn’t officially announced plans for a Solo trilogy, it comes as absolutely no surprise that they’d potentially be planning one, since major studios these days will happily stretch every film to its maximum franchise potential and beyond.

Then again, it could be that Disney has other plans entirely, and maybe Alden Ehrenreich will be appearing as Han Solo in other films, like a stand-alone Lando Calrissian story starring Donald Glover or something along those lines. We await their official announcement.

The production of Solo was notoriously troubled, with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller fired partway through filming and replaced with Ron Howard, amid rumours that the script was “unworkable” and Ehrenreich was having difficulty nailing his Harrison Ford impression.

The film arrives in Australia on May 24, so you’ll soon be able to see how it all turned out.
