The First Look At Will Smith’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Genie Will Rub Ya Lamp

Disney has mastered the precise science of nostalgia. The House of Mouse has a forensic knowledge of what made the films they pumped out in the 1990s so compelling to a generation of kids, and know how to make those same elements mesh nearly three decades later.

All of this is to say Entertainment Weekly has come out with a fresh look at the upcoming re-imagining of Aladdin, and it’s pretty bloody alright.

Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and the inimitable Will Smith appear on the magazine’s latest cover as Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Genie, respectively. The imagery alone is sure to be comforting to hordes of folks now in their mid-20s: everything looks like it’s up to code.

The on-set photos don’t diminish from that sentiment. Cop Smith as the Genie, pretty effectively combining the template set by Robin Williams with hints of Dragon Ball Z‘s Majin Buu: 

A behind-the-scenes peek shows a glimpse of director Guy Ritchie‘s classic chase scenes in action, too.
