Days on from the devastating report that Sarah Paulson will not be returning as a main character in the next season of American Horror Story (AHS), Ryan Murphy has confirmed the news with a list of the cast who will be taking part in season 9.

“To celebrate the first day of filming the NINTH Season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, here’s the official 1984 cast announcement along with some amazing 80s lewks,” he wrote on Instagram, “Enjoy!”

Have a gander at the tubular camera tests below and let them transport you back to the glory days of the 1980s:

Among the potential victims for the slasher-themed season is returning actors Emma RobertsLeslie GrossmanCody Fern, John Carol Lynch and Billie Lourd, along with newcomers Olympian Gus Kenworthy, Glee star Matthew Morrison, Pose alum Angelica Ross, DeRon Horton and Zach Villa.

Roberts will seemingly lead the season with Kenworthy playing her character’s boyfriend.

Pics surfaced this week of Roberts with brunette hair, leading punters to assume that production had begun on the ninth season of FX’s horror anthology series.

Paulson’s fellow series mainstay Evan Peters previously said he will not be in season 9 either.

While speaking to an Extra reporter at WonderCon, Peters responded “No” when asked if he was “involved” in the new season.

“No, I’m going to sit a season out,” he said.

Season 9 is set to drop in the States on September 18 and if history is any guide, it should arrive in Aus at some time around then.
