Trailer For HBO’s Adnan Syed Doco Promises New Evidence In The ‘Serial’ Case

The first trailer for HBO‘s upcoming documentary on Adnan Syed has been released, promising to showcase new developments in the efforts to finally have him freed from prison over a murder supporters claim he didn’t commit.

The short clip for The Case Against Adnan Syed shows supporters poring over evidence they hope will exonerate Syed of the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.

It also references the podcast true crime Serial, which drew international interest in the Baltimore-area murder and subsequent attempts to prove Syed’s innocence.

After arguing that Syed’s initial lawyer provided ineffective representation, and that mobile phone information prosecutors used to link Syed to the crime was faulty, Syed’s new attorneys won the right to a new trial in 2016. That decision to launch a new trial was upheld in 2018.

But that same year, the State launched an challenge on the decision to overturn Syed’s conviction. A decision on the case, which is currently before Maryland‘s Court of Appeals, is expected to be delivered before August.

There’s no set release date on the HBO documentary, but you can expect that insight into the case to arrive some time before the ruling.
