Your Boy Channing Tatum Confirms The ‘Magic Mike’ Musical Is Still Happening

In good news for fans of either massive units or people bursting into song, and very good news for those who occupy the overlapping area in that particular venn diagram, the rumoured Magic Mike musical is definitely going ahead
So says your boy Channing Tatum, aka the Magic Mike of the title, aka a massive unit, who confirmed as much during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly
“It is still in the works,” Tatum told the interviewer. “We’re getting it going. Oddly enough, the second one lends itself more to the musical. I think our original idea was to do a prequel, like how Mike got in.”
Tatum, director Steven Soderbergh and writer Reid Carolin previously said that they want the show to be an “interactive experience” that takes place in a strip club, where you can “surrender yourself” for the night.
Don’t expect Tatum himself to reprise the role of Mike on stage, though, “I’d love the challenge. I’m a huge fan of stage,” he said, “but if it’s a musical, I’d need a lot of singing classes. I think there’s probably people who are better at it than I am.”
Magic Mike XXL, which sees a retired Mike reunite with his old stripper crew for one last blowout, is out in Australia on July 2. As for whether there’ll be any more movies, Tatum is unsure.
“I really don’t know,” he told EW. “I wish I could say yeah because we have so much fun on them. I’m never gonna say never, but if we did it, because the first one is so different from the second one, I would probably just try and change it again.”
This has been your extremely necessary Channing Tatum update for today.
