Woman Jailed After Failing To Return VHS Copy Of Jennifer Lopez Movie She Rented 9 Years Ago

Confession time: I once released myself from the responsibility of having to pay an exorbitant four-figure late fee to my local video store simply by never returning there again. Since that video store is now a frozen yoghurt shop and I haven’t heard from them since, that tactic seems to have worked out for me. Some people, though, aren’t so lucky.

A woman from Pickens in South Carolina spent the night in county lockup last week after failing to return a VHS copy of J-Lo romantic comedy Monster-In-Law that she had rented from a video store nine years ago. The video store, Dalton’s Video, has since been shut down, but a warrant for her arrest remained and when she divulged her identity to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office to report an unrelated matter nine years later, she was arrested for petty larceny and spent the night in jail.
She was released the following day on $2000 bond.
“I fully intend on fighting this,” she told Fox Carolina. “It’s ridiculous that I had this happen to me.”

Speaking of ridiculous…this whole thing.
