Netflix Has Come To Slay Us With The First Epic Trailer For ‘The Witcher’

Witcher

If there’s a Game Of Thrones-shaped hole in your life right now, then Netflix are very interesting in filling it, with the first trailer for their adaptation of The Witcher arriving today.

The show is based on a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, which were also the basis for a wildly popular video game series by CD Projekt Red.

Series creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said that the Netflix version will not follow the storyline of the games but will instead be a “straight adaptation” of the books. She told: Entertainment Weekly :

“They [the games] went one direction, we actually get to go another. We’re kind of holding close to our chest what we’re doing in the first season.”

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as the titular Geralt of Rivia, and the trailer sees him swinging his sword at a variety of men and monsters, and preparing to take on a giant spider.

The series also stars Freya Allen as Geralt’s ward Ciri and and Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer. Hissrich also said that the show will have a significant focus on Yennefer’s back story and some of the “defining moments” of her life.

There’s no confirmed release date as yet, but you can check out the trailer below:
