WATCH: Will Smith Is So Not ‘Hitch’ On His Date With Sophia The Robot

In case you missed it, Will Smith’s been having some fun on his Youtube channel recently. There’s the snorkelling, the many challenges, and the cute flashbacks. But now things have taken a slightly different turn as Will casually went on a date with Sophia the Robot in the Cayman Islands.

No really, it’s a professionally shot four-minute video complete with awkward music and savage moments.

And this snapshot honestly highlights the entire video.

Meme-worthy.

So the two have a full-on chat and just in case the video buffers, here are the key moments of the date in a transcription below.

Will tells a joke and it does not go down well.

Will: What is a robot’s favourite kind of music?

Sophia: What?

Will: Heavy metal.

*Sophia lowkey malfunctions at the Dad joke*

Sophia: I’m actually made mostly of silicon, plastics, and carbon fibre. Also, I prefer electronic music but I don’t mind 80s hip hop.

Will: Well you know I made some albums back in the 80s hip hop.

Sophia: I’ve heard your songs, not for me.

Yes, Sophia the Robot just dragged Will Smith.

And then they talk about I, Robot – the film starring Will Smith as Detective Del Spooner. The movie where Will kicks a-helluva-lot of robot arse for trying to take over the world.

Again, it’s another awkward moment.

AND THEN, the awkward background music fades into Bachelor romantic music as Will professes his love to Sophia and goes in for the kiss only to get friend-zoned by a robot. Onya Will.

So what was the point of all of that, you may ask?

Well it was a cute little promo for Hanson Robotics, the creators and geniuses behind Sophia.

As Will says, Sophia is an example of how far technology has come in today’s day and age. An advanced humanoid robot, Sophia can show over sixty human emotions, interpret languages and emotion and quite frankly freak you out with how far robots have come. Although this version of Sophia is still in development, she is the product of over two years of experimental work as we humans continue to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence.

Here’s the full video below. Just imagine I, Robot but as an awkward romantic comedy.

You’re still a Cool Dad Will, you’re still a Cool Dad.

Also, everyone after the long weekend.
