It’s official, Donald Trump is going to be the next president of the United States – who could have possibly seen this coming?

And also… Lisa Simpson? Just kidding, Lisa Simpson is a fictional character. Matt Groening and the other writers on ‘The Simpsons‘ totally called it though.
In the classic episode ‘Bart To The Future‘, in which Bart is granted a vision of his future as a washed up deadshit (extremely relatable), we see Lisa as America‘s first “straight female president”, who has taken office following a Trump administration.
In what is probably not a wildly incorrect prediction for the future, he did not leave a lot of money in the country:
“Lisa: As we know we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump. How is it, Secretary Van Houten?“Milhouse: We’re broke.”
While it wasn’t an amazingly calculated piece of political prophecy, it’s even better knowing that it was a joke about how Trump is the most ridiculous possible candidate, as Groening told ‘The Guardian‘:
“We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 – but [Trump] was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire.”
