The ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ TV Remake Is Officially A Bloody, Fangy Go

Hell yes, friends. Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement‘s insanely great 2014 mockumentary flick What We Do In The Shadows is 100% getting the long-rumoured TV adaptation that it richly deserves.

There’s been a lot of will it/won’t it, rumour and speculation, innuendo and development surrounding the project, which US cable network FX has been circling for quite some time. But today’s news confirms it far beyond any reasonable doubt. The network revealed the adaptation is getting a full-series order, meaning the previous pilot shot for the project was a success and we will see the show on screens at some point in the not-too-distant future.

The original film followed three New Zealand vampires (played by Waititi, Clement, and Jonny Brugh) who have been roommates for hundreds of years, navigating a world where the vampiric underground has seamlessly integrated with the mundane minutiae of ordinary human life.

The TV adaptation takes that same premise and transplants it to New York City, and will feature a cast that sports the likes of Matt Berry (The IT CrowdThe Mighty BooshThe Toast of London, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplaceetc etc) Kayvan Novak (Four Lions), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends) and Harvey Guillen (The Magicians).

Clement and Waititi will not be starring in the series adaptation, however they will remain on-board the production as executive producers.

The series is set to receive 10 half-hour episodes, and will premiere in the first half of 2019.

In the meantime, watch the original film immediately. It’s on Netflix. It’s really very good.

Nil regret decision.
