Fuuck. After a slew of spine-tingling teaser trailers designed to throw American Horror Story fans off the trail, the season six premiere proved an early theory: the newie will focus on the completely true and equally creepy disappearance of 118 colonists in the early days of ‘Murica.
In an ep entitled My Roanoke Nightmare, creator Ryan Murphy and his squadron of fiends confirmed this tale will focus on the titular North Carolinian stronghold.

Juuust to bring you up to speed, it’s the place a returning colonist found the entire joint vanished without a trace – save for the word “Croatoan”, synonymous with a nearby Native American group, carved into the trees.
That knowledge makes these shots make a lil’ more sense:
According to TMZ the cast of #AHS6 was spotted in Pilgrim- era clothing pic.twitter.com/1FuHkgRSm2

It also provided a solid AF call-back to season one, which itself riffed on the Roanoke thing. You might remember medium Billie Dean Howard (Sarah Paulson) telling young Violet (Taissa Formiga) that “the [colonists’] ghosts appeared, summoned by their talismans. But before the spirits could cause them any more harm, the elder completed the curse that would banish the ghosts forever.
By uttering a single word. The same word found carved on a post at the abandoned colony. ‘Croatoan.'”
Watch this space, ’cause it’s probs gonna get messy from here.
