Welcome To The Dollhouse: Amy Schumer Is In Talks To Play Barbie

In the greatest bit of casting news we’ve heard in some time, Deadline reported overnight that Amy Schumer is in serious talks to star as Barbie, in Sony‘s upcoming live-action film about the doll.
Schumer was reportedly impressed with the script and its “funny empowerment take” on Barbie, and is currently working on some rewrites with her sister Kim Caramele, before finalising the deal to star.
The Trainwreck star will be playing a Barbie who gets kicked out of Barbieland because she’s “not perfect enough”, after which:

“She then goes on an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection.”
Unfortunately, this won’t be the all-drinking, all-cussing Barbie movie you’re probably hoping for – Mattel has generated more than $3 billion marketing its kids’ toy over the years, so in the interests of that, the film will be PG rated.
That said, we’re sure it will follow the lead of almost every other recent kids’ movie we can think of and slip in a few risque jokes for the adults in the audience.
Barbie is due for worldwide release in mid-2018, so we’ll have to wait until then to see if Amy Schumer can top Kristen Wiig‘s iconic take:
