Watching This Teaser for Netflix’s ‘Lemony Snicket’ Series Will Ruin Yr Day

Disclaimer: whatever you do, don’t read this story. Seriously, it’s not worth it. It’s super depressing and doesn’t contain any information you really want.

Still here? Alrighty, glutton for punishment.

What you’re about to see is the first trailer for one of the most anticipated programs on Netflix’s slate for next year: its eight-part adaptation of the deliciously morbid ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ books, by Daniel Handler.
The 80-sec teaser is as depressing (and meta) as you’d expect – Patrick Warburton, as Handler’s alter ego Mr. Lemony Snicket, literally begs viewers not to watch the series.

“Please, don’t make the same mistake that Netflix has,” he implores. “Look away before this dire tale is even filmed, and avoid the cruel whimsy, and whimsical cruelty, of what’s to come.”
He also notes the fact that the story of Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny is so depressing that the entire Netflix crew – directors, designers and stagehands – is currently under observation for acute melancholia.
It’s then that we get our first glimpse of the v. menacing Count Olaf, to be played by the ever-amazing Neil Patrick Harris – well, his evil voice revelling in the crew’s misfortune.

All of the series’ depressing episodes hit Netflix on Friday, January 13.
