Watch Waleed Aly Skewer “The Biggest Story You’ve Never Heard Of”: The TPP

Keeping mum on issues that affect Australians is becoming an increasingly skilful pursuit by the Government – new laws on silencing those speaking out against Australian detention centre conditions are but the tip of the iceberg.

The Trans Pacific Partnership – a landmark trade deal currently being ushered through closed doors by Australia, USA, Peru, Chile Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, New Zealand and Singapore (with Canada, Mexico and Japan trailing closely behind) gets far less coverage in the Australian media than, say, a certain Q&A episode airing weeks ago, but it’s no less important: coverage on the TPP has ebbed purely due to lack of information surrounding a deal that trade minister Andrew Robb is keeping under wraps.

Opinion on how the TPP will directly affect Australians varies – an American-style health care system, say some; dangerous restrictions on intellectual property rights, warn others.
In another round of Something We Should Talk About, The Project‘s greatest asset Waleed Aly perfectly slams the lack of transparency surrounding the TPP in Australia, calling on Andrew Robb to #FREETHETPP and for Australians to grill Robb by emailing him about the deal on Andrew.Robb.MP@aph.gov.au.
