WATCH: Wahlberg Stars In Insanely Patriotic Boston Bombing Movie Trailer

It has to be said about the American film industry: they do not waste any time in making blockbuster films about national tragedies.

The first trailer for Mark Wahlberg‘s film about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing has arrived, and it’s exactly as peak ‘Murican as you’d expect.

Patriots Day‘ follows the true story of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis‘s (John Goodman) actions in the events leading up to the attack and the city-wide manhunt for the terrorists afterwards. Wahlberg himself stars as Boston Police Department Sergeant Tommy Saunders, alongside J.K. Simmons as Watertown Police Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese and Kevin Bacon as FBI agent Richard DesLauriers.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the brothers accused of masterminding the attack which killed three people and injured 264 others, are played by Themo Melikidze and Alex Wolff respectively.

“Some events test our courage, some people inspire our strength, and some moments define out spirit,” the film’s tagline reads.

Check out the trailer below, complete with close ups of waving ‘Murican flags and set to a sombre version of ‘American The Beautiful‘.

‘Patriots Day’ will be released January 13th, 2017.
