US TV networks are currently doing things called upfronts, which are presentations of their lineup for the new season the begins after the American summer. Along with corporate presentations to media buyers in the hopes that their shows get picked up for syndication, trailers for the swathe of new shows they have premiering are dropping left, right and centre.
Among the trailers is this one for the American version of the locally conceived and produced Secrets & Lies, our version of which aired on Channel Ten a few months ago. The US version stars quintessential 90s hunk Ryan Phillippe in the lead role of Ben Garner, humble painter and murder suspect, with Juliette Lewis taking over as the antagonistic homicide detective.
Those of you who watched the local series will have a fair idea of how the US version could end up. And as an added bonus, you’ll be able to spot more than a few similarities between the US trailer and the home-grown series.
Secrets & Lies will air in the US on ABC as a midseason entry.
