Next Tuesday night heralds a discernible shift in The ABC’s regularly scheduled comedy programming in favour of something a little more in line with the popular ‘gore’ genre when Inside Schoolies: You Only Live Once – an observational documentary shot over the final two weeks of November in Bali and on the Gold Coast – airs on the national broadcaster at 8:30pm. Terrifying.
Billed as “a candid look at a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Inside Schoolies: YOLO will be narrated by triple j’s Zan Rowe and promises to go beyond both headlines and closed hotel doors alike to document the #nofilter experience of five groups of young Australians who recently undertook that unique generational pilgrimage to two temporary geographical epicentres of unabashed teen hedonism.
It’ll also be followed immediately by a live forum filmed on the Gold Coast, airing on ABC2 and hosted by Hack’s Tom Tilley that aims to unpack the varying Schoolies experience of recent attendees. Law enforcement officials and volunteer services like The Red Frogs will also get a word in, as will you granted you continue on using the hashtag #schooliesyolo, as you’ve been wont to do of late.
