Watch The Trailer For Jim Jarmusch’s Vampire Film “Only Lovers Left Alive”

Just when you thought we had witnessed the one true death of vampire films, BANG, along comes this artistic adults-only teaser trailer to remind us that before 2008 vampires were nihilistic European rock stars with unknowable emotional issues instead of timid American high school students with glitter torsos, deep stares and purity rings.

To wit, Tilda Swinton  (Moonrise Kingdom, We Need To Talk About Kevin) and Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor) star as badass hipster-vamps in the new Jim Jarmusch film, Only Lovers Left Alive. Adam and Eve, on and off lovers for centuries, reunite to shake Adam out of his all-black-everything emotional purgatory (ps. he is also an underground musician who plays guitar and dresses like a street magician, he is an indie vampire, which is one of the most Jim Jarmusch things ever).

The two hang out until Eve’s younger sister (future Cate Blanchett, Mia Wasikowska) appears out of nowhere to disrupt whatever happiness they have eked out for themselves and set into motion a chain of events (dump body into river, board plane, hang out in alleyways) whose purpose or correlation is not entirely clear right now.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?”

Needles to say, there will be blood.
