WATCH: The Tom Cruise-Led ‘Mummy’ Reboot Cops A Full & Intense Trailer

Obviously, it is an absolute travesty that ‘The Mummy‘ can be rebooted without Brendan Fraser. He is the cheekier cousin of Harrison Ford‘s Indiana Jones, and no romp around Egypt chasing after reincarnated mummies bent on wreaking havoc is complete without him.

But here we are, in 2016, and those Hollywood fuckers are remaking ‘The Mummy‘ with Tom Cruise. Nice to see they’re taking a chance on someone new and fresh-faced to reboot the franchise, hey?

The first full trailer has now dropped, and we’ve got a taste for what this bloody thing will look like. Straight-up, it kinda looks like every Tom Cruise movie ever made, infused with terrifying ancient beings and the full range of Biblical plagues. It’s ‘Mission Impossible: Hamunaptra‘.

It also looks genuinely terrifying. Not that the OG films didn’t have their scary moments (beetles crawling under my skin remained a nightmare staple for years), but the comic relief from Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah kept things from becoming *too* intense. This film looks like it’ll provide no such relief.

The opening sequence takes place inside a US military helicopter (you always know it’s a ~big reboot~ when the military is involved; see ‘28 Weeks Later‘, ‘The Purge: Election Year‘, uh…. more will come to me, I’m sure), and looks like a remarkably accurate portrayal of what the inside of a helicopter looks like when crashing, if we had anything to compare it to.

‘The Mummy’ hits theatres June 9, 2017.
