Hey, did you know ‘The Simpsons‘ predicted Donald Trump‘s presidential bid a full 15 years before he announced his run?
Of course you fucking do. Everybody does. Although it’s worth pointing out that the elevator scene was actually from a promotional clip made after Trump announced he was running, and the actual prediction was the scene from the flash-forward episode circa 2000, ‘Bart to the Future‘.
The Simpsons have now addressed their spookily accurate prediction in the wake of Trump actually winning the election. It’s a quickie, but christ does it get the point across.

Executive Producer James L. Brooks told IndieWire last week that he’s as horrified as anyone that what started as a joke has turned into cold stark reality.
“We’ve all been obsessed with this election, but that’s us not the show,” he said. “We’ve done some satirical online pieces. It started out peacefully when Trump went down the escalator and Homer went into his hair. That’s how innocent it was when it started.
“It was a joke. It was preposterous at the time. It stopped being a joke when the dynamic of him reaching a lot of Americans started. Then people speculated whether he really wanted the job. People speculated that maybe he was kidding. But you have to believe in the country.”
He also said that “it’s really disorientating and scary,” now that Trump’s set for the White House.
“I’ve experienced someone I don’t agree with becoming president, but I never had a moment where I believed that the country wasn’t going to be the same. I’m giving myself pep talks to not disappear into grief and disillusionment.”
FYI here’s the original ~spooky~ prediction:
