WATCH: The Roots Betray Fallon, Help Seth Rogen Destroy His Lip Sync Battle

Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync Battle segment is so formulaic, they’ve eked an entire show around that one concept: celebrities mime songs that play against certain stereotypes. Cross-dressing may be involved. Hilarity ensues.
So, this late in the game, contestants have got to bring more than their hammer pants to squeeze the last remaining lols from the once-juicy concept. Working against type, the ever-affable Seth Rogen did just that. By straight-up stabbing Fallon in the back.
After Fallon’s kinda dry ‘n’ stilted interpretation of a Kent Jones track, Rogen snaked the hell out of the host by enlisting The Roots – legitimate musical powerhouses and The Tonight Show’s stalwart house band – for their own Mellow My Man.
You can actually pinpoint the second when Fallon’s heart rips in half. Cue some legitimate confusion from our poor host as he realises all this time, he could have just run through How I Got Over to stomp anyone who sets foot on his stage:
Even that months-too-late take on Hotline Bling couldn’t detract from the pure gall on display. As far as we’re concerned, it’s bloody fantastic that someone finally figured out the key to success on the show: using the host’s most trusted allies against him like a goddamn savage.
