WATCH: The ‘Mummy’ Trailer Without Sound Effects Is V. Awkward Comedy Gold

If you’d asked me a week ago how I felt about a remake of ‘The Mummy‘ without Brendan Fraser, I would have told you that it it’s a travesty and a crime against both the arts and humanity. If you asked me about it today, I’d tell you exactly the same thing, except with a slightly happier tone.

Movies are silly. They are a very silly art form. Trailers are even sillier. Whenever you see a fake trailer for something you realise all of the music and the quips and the jump cuts and the voice overs are genuinely insane, but for real movies, somehow, we manage to suspend our disbelief enough to get caught up in them.
It turns out if you take all of the audio from a trailer that isn’t dialogue, screaming or one piece of score at the end, your trailer is going to look very, very silly indeed.
Luckily for us, this is exactly what IMAX did, gifting us a version of the trailer for ‘The Mummy‘ that is almost entirely short barks and yelps from Tom Cruise.
After Tumblr cottoned on to it, it gained a lot of popularity when it was uploaded to Twitter, which (after six days) made IMAX realise they’d fucked up, deleting the original video.
Still on Twitter though, fools:

And for some hot bonus content, it turns out the most ridiculous scene from ‘Revenge Of The Sith‘ also becomes straight-up hilarious when you only use the sound effects from the broken version of ‘The Mummy‘ trailer:

Incredible.
