As a present for his 95th birthday, The Weinstein Co. have delivered the first-look trailer for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, a forthcoming biopic based on the former South African President and anti-Apartheid revolutionary’s 1994 autobiography Long Walk To Freedom.
Idris Elba (The Wire, Prometheus, Pacific Rim) takes a break from assaulting aliens to bring a quiet, commanding gravitas to the role played previously by Sidney Poitier in Mandela and de Klerk and Morgan Freeman in Invictus.
The film was penned by British scribe William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Misérables) and directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) and is slated for release in November.
