Watch Sarah Silverman Tackle Serious Drama In The ‘I Smile Back’ Trailer

Sarah Silverman has built a pretty damn solid career on being funny as fuck, but the comedian’s latest film role, as an angsty suburban mum in the drama I Smile Back, shows her talents in a whole new, serious light.
The first trailer for the Adam Salky-directed film, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, arrived overnight, and people are already flipping out over Silverman’s performance. Per the film’s official synposis:
“Laney is an attractive, intelligent suburban wife and devoted mother of two adorable children. She has the perfect husband who plays basketball with the kids in the driveway, a pristine house, and a shiny SUV for carting the children to their next activity. However, just beneath the façade lie depression and disillusionment that send her careening into a secret world of reckless compulsion. Only very real danger will force her to face the painful root of her destructiveness and its crumbling effect on those she loves.”
This is hardly the first time a high-profile comedian has turned to a downbeat dramatic role – from Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love to Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, many have had a crack.
We’re nonetheless pretty excited to see what Sarah Silverman can do with a role like this. Check out the trailer below:
The film, which also stars Josh Charles, is out in the U.S. in October, but does not yet have an Australian release date.
