In the latest superhero installment to hit our screens, Marvel brings us Captain America: The First Avenger, starring Chris Evans.
Focusing on the origins of the Marvel comics character, the story takes place during the midst of World War II, where a physically unfit Steve Rogers (Evans) wants to enlist in the U.S. Army, but instead ends up volunteering in a secret military operation that turns him into super solder, Captain America. Here he joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to battle it out against the HYDRA organisation, led by villain, the Red Skull (played by Hugo Weaving).
Directed by Joe Johnston (Wolfman, Jumanji), the film features a slew of other Hollywood names, including Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci, Dominic Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones. Opening in the US on July 22, the film is a prelude to the forthcoming Avengers film, which is set for release in May of next year. We’ll see the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk come together in a superfied action film, starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo. In other words: geek pants-explosion time. Check out the trailer below.
