Fragrance commercials never feature gratuitous bedroom scenes just like “It’s a Man’s Man’s World” never ironically soundtracks female empowerment. Cliches aside, Keira Knightley’s turn as model turned speed racer for Chanel Coco Mademoiselle provides a hard edged allure not usually associated with director Joe Wright’s period dramas. Having worked together on Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, Knightley and Wright concoct a Parisian love story about a bodysuit-wearing, motorbike-riding model and the hapless photographer she leaves in the lurch, probably with an erection. Poor guy! I bet his sheets smell nice though.
