Hey, James Van Der Beek has definitely done stuff since he was the titular Dawson in Dawson’s Creek. He pops up on TV every now and then, he’s getting work. So it’s probably gotta be a little galling for him that every single interview is basically based around the interviewer saying “Are you Dawson?! From Dawson’s Creek?! I thought you died!”
He appeared on UK talk show This Morning to talk about his new project Carters Get Rich, but the hosts were somewhat more keen on talking about how much more successful Van Der Beek’s Dawson’s Creek co-stars are compared to him. Which is lovely, obviously.
They kick off the interview by showing photos of his co-stars Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson and saying they’ve all thrived in Hollywood, while heavily suggesting that Van Der Beek has collapsed into obscurity and aged terribly. “I have been on television for the last 20 years, just to let you know,” he immediately says.
The hosts continually reminisce on Dawson’s Creek while Van Der Beek keeps saying things like “It was a long time ago” and asserting that he never actually watched the series in full. Which is a lie. He has definitely watched it while crying.
