As far as mythical creatures go we’re pretty tired of vampires. The floor length capes and European accents that once made them cool – if not at least enjoyably camp – have been traded in for body glitter and synthetic blood. Bring back mermaids we say. What’s not to love about beautiful sea sirens with flowing hairdos and an adversity to wearing shirts? And now, after having watched the footage (below) of Gemma Ward as Tamara the Mermaid Queen in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides our resolve to make mermaids ‘happen’ has only strengthened.
