Nearly a week after the unprecedented bungling of the Census, it’s become clear that the Australian Bureau of Statistics probably brought that drama upon themselves. While they spent nearly half a million dollars on ensuring their servers were up to the task of handling millions of users at once, it certainly appears they still capitulated under the stress of Australia’s wannabe box-tickers.
That didn’t stop a slew of higher-ups from initially labeling the Denial of Service outages a deliberate attack from international aggressors. Sure, the info contained in the Census is probs a target for the world’s baddies, but the entire saga conjured up images of some massive, coordinated attempt to jack the deets of every man, woman and child on this island we call home.
Now, the ordeal’s end-of-the-world vibe has been perfectly captured by the jokesters over at ABC’s Insiders. Aunty’s best and brightest have hurled all the key statements from the Census’ aftermath into Independence Day, as you do, and the resulting clip is perhaps the most clear explanation of what the fuck even happened we’re likely to get.
