The trailer for the upcoming Power Rangers movie is finally upon us, and it appears that the filmmakers have ditched the candy-coloured ’90s aesthetic in favour of something darker, grittier and ~slightly~ reminiscent of that recent Fantastic Four reboot.
The trailer – set to a Halsey cover of the Johnny Cash classic ‘Walk The Line‘, to maximise indie creditude – introduces the Power Rangers as a group of angsty, misfit teens who are drawn together in detention and granted mighty morphin’ powers.
To be honest, we’re mainly here for Elizabeth Banks, who is channelling pure Freddy Krueger-style evil as Rita Repulsa and threatens to straight-up murder one of the rangers, because this is all very dark and serious business.
The film, which also features Bill Hader and Bryan Cranston, is out March 2017. Enjoy:
