WATCH: Elisabeth Moss & Alexis Bledel Endure ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Teaser

Female-driven stories of rebellion against totalitarian regimes have been at the forefront of pop culture for a fair while now, but The Hunger Games, Divergent and their ilk all owe a debt of gratitude to Margaret Atwood’s seminal 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale.

Now, the streaming service adaptation of that dystopian classic has copped itself a teaser, and yep: the Hulu original seems exactly as oppressive as you’d imagine.

Starring Elisabeth Moss, Samira Wiley, and Alexis Bledel, the series will follow Atwood’s terrifying vision of a North America where fertile women are placed into reproductive servitude – and how those characters persevere through that extreme vision of patriarchal control.
Timely, that.
It’s still not entirely clear how Aussie audiences will be able to catch the series when it premieres on April 26th in the US, but hell, this glimpse will probably give you reason to seek a (legal) method out:
