The trailer for ‘Young Adult’, the latest venture from Academy Award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody and frequent collaborator, director Jason Reitman, has appropriately rolled out of bed and onto the Internet. The film stars Charlize Theron as Mavis Gary, purveyor of young adult literature and acerbic one-liners, who returns to her home town with hopes of rekindling the flame between her fine self and her high-school sweetheart, Patrick Wilson, who now comes married with children. Complications arise set to the tune of David Bowie’s ‘Queen Bitch’.
Cody and Reitman have between them a pretty impressive CV: they struck teen-pregnancy gold with Juno, worked together on Jennifer’s Body to mixed reviews, Cody also penned United States of Tara and Reitman directed spin-tastic satire Thank You For Smoking and the critically adored Up In The Air. ‘Young Adult’ then reads something like what happened next to Juno MacGuff after she stopped covering the Moldy Peaches, left the suburbs, became even more jaded and came back for Paulie Bleeker.
