Watch Cate Blanchett Ride A Streetcar Named Vodka in Woody Allen’s ‘Blue Jasmine’

Woody Allen returns to The States, his preferred genre [white people, talking about themselves] and hopefully fine form in Blue Jasmine, the trailer for which reads like a pretty literal homage to Tennessee Williams’s ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’

Fittingly enough, alabaster unicorn Cate Blanchett plays the titular protagonist, a Birkin-toting, Xanax-addled New Yorker on the verge of a nervous breakdown, who’s forced to move in with her homey West Coast sister, played by the always charming Sally Hawkins. Naturally, it all goes downhill from there, because San Francisco has so many hills and there’s only so much of a Stoly infused neuroses cocktail one can take before they fall over.
Louis C.K., Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale playing Marlon Brando, Peter Saarsgard and the ennui of the middle class also feature prominently in Blue Jasmine, Allen’s follow-up to the lacklustre To Rome With Love, both of which should hit cinemas and the bargain bin respectively September 5th.
