Prepare your morning emotions: the trailer for ‘Carol‘ is out, and it looks like a heartbreaker.
Cate Blanchett is the older, married woman – the eponymous Carol – who falls in love with Therese (Rooney Mara), a department store clerk. Set in ’50s New York, the film depicts the struggles of same-sex relationships in a less tolerant decade.
The film premiered at Cannes and was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or prize (which ended up going to Jacques Audiard‘s ‘Dheepan‘); it also earned Mara a tied award for Best Actress, and scooped the Queer Palm award.
