WATCH: ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ Pt. II Trailer Is Here To Deal Hope & Horror

A decade after Al Gore‘s Academy Award-winning documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth‘ shook the world comes the sequel that promises to do it all over again.

The first trailer for ‘An Inconvenient Sequel‘ opens with footage of then-Republican nominee, now President Trump joking about climate change while on the campaign trail.

“It’s supposed to be 70 degrees today, it’s freezing here. Speaking of global warming – where is it? We need some global warming! It’s freezing!”

It’s a scary look at just how much has changed, and worse, how much has stayed the same, since ICT.

“The most criticised scene in ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ was showing that the combination of sea level rise and storm surge would flood a 9/11 memorial site, and people said, ‘What a terrible exaggeration’,” says Gore.

Well, that prediction came true six years later, when Hurricane Sandy slammed into New York City.

The documentary is once again helmed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk, the directors who brought us the groundbreaking original.

But as nightmarish as the scenes AIS paints are – particularly on the same day Trump signed an executive order rolling back Obama-era climate change policies – there’s also a strong message of hope.

“A decade after AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH brought climate change into the heart of popular culture, comes the riveting and rousing follow-up that shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution,” reads the synopsis.

“Former Vice President Al Gore continues his tireless fight traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Cameras follow him behind the scenes – in moments both private and public, funny and poignant — as he pursues the inspirational idea that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.”

‘An Inconvenient Sequel’ hits cinemas August 24.
