Warnie Gets His Own Talk Show At Last

Ever since Rove quit his eponymous variety hour and Andrew Denton put the handbrake on Enough rope, Australian viewers have been left with gaping hole in the landscape of homemade talk show television – probably for wont of a suitable host. Remember when talk show hosts were required to fulfill some kind of academic criteria: a of PhD in people studies or an respected career in journalism or the alumnae of a Magda Szubanski sketch show? Luckily, our unique Aussie psyche also begets champion sports people as ideal fodder for prime time glory – and who better to helm the next Aussie chat show than Shane ‘Warnie’ Warne, a man whose looping leg-spinners kept international batsmen in knots and won him the heart of the nation and international celebrity.

Warnie’s developed a chat show with Channel 9 to air for the Ashes Test over summer and said, “we’ve already secured two or three big-name guests at this stage so things are going well.” A source told us that among the first guests will be a celebrity of the talk show circuit. Could Warnie possibly go head to head with Oprah Winfrey during her Australian sojourn?

I’m not sure how you’re feeling about his latest post but anyone who can represent their country on the sports pitch while sustaining a diet of pies and schooners gets the green light from me.
