Country singer Meghan Linsey has provided a valuable service to the internet, specifically to people who enjoy seeing gross things on the internet, by sharing pictures of a gnarly spider bite she copped to the face earlier this year.
Linsey, the runner-up on season eight of The Voice, woke up in her Nashville home on February 12 this year to a stinging sensation on her face, and discovered a dead spider in her hand.
We’re already in ‘worst nightmare’ territory at this point, but it got worse when Linsey bagged the little beast up and took it to the emergency room, to discover that she had been bitten by a brown recluse.
Along with the black widow, the brown recluse is one of two North American spiders with ‘medically-significant venom’, and if you’re unlucky, its bite can be necrotic, meaning it will literally eat away at your goddamn flesh.
Linsey documented her recovery on Instagram, describing her symptoms and sharing shudder-inducing pics of a section of flesh on her cheek that turned black and fell away for a time after the bite. She wrote:
“Over the course of the last 9 days, I have experienced the most insane symptoms. From excruciating nerve pain in my face, muscle spasms, full body rash, extreme swelling… etc. It has really been rough. It has been confirmed that I was bit by a brown recluse spider, one of two of the most poisonous spiders in the US. I am still dealing with the wound on my face, but I finally found the right meds to control the nerve pain.”
Shit’s about to get very real very quickly, so if you’re at all squeamish, turn away now. If you’re still here, these are some of the pics that Linsey shared of her bite as it got progressively gnarlier:
As of earlier this week, Linsey told her followers that the dead tissue around the bite had gone, and she is optimistic about making a full recovery. We certainly wish her all the best.
In summary, then, mother nature is still the worst, and spiders in particular can go fuck themselves.
