Katie Dippold is known for many things. She was a writer on Parks and Recreation, one-half of the writing team for 2016’s Ghostbusters and the brains behind the People’s Choice award-winning 2014 comedy The Heat. She’s also responsible for one of the greatest Halloween tweets of all time, involving a respectable, albeit lonesome, Babadook costume.
In 2016, Katie took to Twitter to recoun the time she rocked up to a respectable, mature, wine party as the Babadook.
Tbt to Halloween when I dressed as the babadook but my friend’s house had more of a grown ups drinking wine vibe pic.twitter.com/PoGKUFeLLw

Speaking to New York Magazine that year, Katie explained that, while she knew it was going to be a casual affair, she’d expected at least a couple of people to dress up. But when she saw everyone sitting inside watching a movie – costume-less – she knew she’d made a slight error in judgement.
Not one to waste an opportunity, Katie decided to scare them through the window – and scare them she did. “That was all fun and very exciting at first,” Katie told the publication, “but then when it came down to just sitting down and having a glass of wine and watching an entire movie, then it felt different.”
The original tweet has amassed over 230k likes and 100k retweets since its genesis 3 years ago, and continues to go viral each October in a newfound Halloween tradition. This year was no different.
This remains the greatest Halloween tweet of all time. https://t.co/VT868ya19t

Let’s give it up for camera flash. Without it, this just wouldn’t be as special. https://t.co/oaTf97bCcc

Katie: three years on, I applaud you for your bravery, individuality and love of the Babadook. I also applaud you for creating an IRL ‘Cady Heron from Mean Girls‘ moment that continues to fill us with joy every spooky season. Non-sexy Halloween costume-wearers unite!
