Overnight, it was confirmed that Vince Vaughn, who is best known for his comedy roles, will be surprising everyone with his dramatic chops while quite possibly breaking into a series of flop sweats in the second season of HBO’s True Detective.
Hitfix write that the third season is about “three police officers and a career criminal” who find themselves forced to “navigate a web of conspiracy in the wake of a murder.”
Vaughn will play the part of the career criminal, “in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
Colin Farrell has already been confirmed for the role of a crooked cop “whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”
There is still no definite word on who will fill the other two police roles, but current speculation suggests that Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Jamie Alexander, Brit Marling, Oona Chaplin and Kelly Reilly are all strong contendors.
