Vanessa Hudgens Apologises For COVID-19 Comments, Says Backlash Has Been A “Wake Up Call”

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens has apologised for her terrible take on the coronavirus pandemic, which she streamed live on her Instagram.

Presumably replying to a question about the outbreak lasting until America’s summer, Hudgens said, “Yeah, til July sounds like a bunch of bullshit, I’m sorry. It’s a virus, I get it. I respect it.”

“But at the the same time, like, even if everybody gets it – like, yeah, people are gonna die. Which is terrible. But, like, inevitable? I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now.”

You don’t need me to tell you how viral – and not in the good way – her words went on social media. The actor was digitally pummelled for her flippant comments on the pandemic and the “inevitable” deaths it has led to.

Sensing her grave error, Hudgens first responded to the backlash on her Instagram story. She said her comments had been taken out of context, that it’s a “crazy, crazy time” at the moment, and confirmed she is in quarantine.

“I don’t take this situation lightly, by any means. I am home, so stay inside, y’all,” she said.

Again, sensing this wasn’t quite enough, Hudgens shared an actual apology on Twitter, calling her comments both “insensitive” and inappropriate.

“I’m so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram live yesterday,” she wrote.

“I realise my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now.

“This has been a huge wake up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever. I’m sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time.”
