Just like The Bernie Mac Show, Big Love or (maybe more appropriately) iCarly, the marriage of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was denied a sixth season after five years of contractual pursed-lip matrimony – bringing Hollywood’s strangest arrangement, TomKat, to an unceremonious end.
A statement issued from Cruise’s rep has confirmed that “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out.” (Note how she’s no longer referred to as ‘Katie’?)
The statement issued for Holmes by her attorney on the other hand, says “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.“
TomKat was Cruise’s third marriage (all have ended when the wife has turned 33!?) and the first for Holmes. While awkward from the outset in both public declarations of love and physical stature, the marriage produced wünderkind Suri Cruise, now 6. She is also Cruise’s third child. What’s up with this No. 3 fetish? It’s in your hands now, Internet.
The delightful Suri’s Burn Book took the liberty of issuing this statement on Suri’s behalf:
“Please respect my privacy during this difficult time. (Just mine though – everyone else is fair game.) I will be vacationing in the Cayman Islands for the Independence Day holiday with my financier, and going over my plans to seek sole custody of myself. I appreciate the concern and the warm wishes.“

Update: According to TMZ, Katie is (obviously) filing for sole legal custody of Suri and her Ferragamo collection. “Sources” say she first filed for divorce over Cruise’s strong ties to the Church of Scientology and her concern for Suri now that she’s at an age where she’s susceptible to Cruise and his beliefs (see below):
