Underbelly Meets De Niro In The Killer Elite

Firass Dirani, the star of Underbelly: The Golden Mile and Cleo’s 2010 Shortest Bachelor Of The Year, has nabbed a role in The Killer Elite a forthcoming action flick starring Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Jason Stratham.

The action/thriller is currently filming in Melbourne which explains Dirani’s casting alongside a disproportionately high number of his countrymen. Namely Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom, Beautiful Kate), Lachy Hulme (The Matrix Revolutions, Macbeth), Aden Young (Mao’s Last Dancer) and Dominic Purcell (Prisonbreak). Not much else is known about the project except that it will be the feature film debut of Sydney via Belfast filmmaker and former Ad-Man Gary McKendry and revolve around this vague one-line synopsis “A former Navy Seal is forced out of retirement in order to save his friend.

Also did you know that Firass Dirani once played the Red Ranger in the 2006 television series Power Rangers Mystic Force? I know, it’s totally weird. You’d think, having played the Red Ranger in Power Rangers Mystic Force that all stories about Dirani would be prefaced with the phrase “former Power Rangers actor”…but they’re not. He was really quite great, as the below video illustrates, just ignore the cheesy-ass music and enjoy the fireballs and mobile phone weapons and glowing eyes. Also, having spent 30 minutes in a Youtube black hole, I’m pretty sure re-editing Power Rangers videos to bad music is a thing now.
