Turns Out Alexis Bledel Wasn’t Crazy About That ‘Gilmore Girls’ Ending

Last year’s Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life ended on a surprising note, with Rory Gilmore, homeless, rudderless and in a career rut, announcing to her mum Lorelai that she was pregnant.
In some ways, it brought things full-circle – a show that started out as the story of a plucky single mother trying to raise her daughter ended with her daughter as single mother – but not everyone was wild about it.
Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory in the series, was one of the naysayers, and on a recent Emmy panel, she explained exactly how she felt, telling the audience:

“I had told [creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] that I hoped Rory would end on a high note after all of her hard work. I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest.”
Sherman-Palladino famously planned out the ending of the show in advance, including the infamous final four words of dialogue, which of course turned out to be: “Mom?” “Yeah?” “I’m pregnant.” Bledel acknowledged this, adding:
“She knew what reaction she was going to get out of the audience. She’s delighted by throwing everyone a curveball. I knew that’s what she wanted and I trusted her.”
The cliffhanger ending left fans waning more, and last month, Netflix content officer Ted Sarandos said that another season remains a possibility, telling UK journalists:

“We hope [there are more installments]. We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped … The worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favourite show to come back and for it to disappoint you, but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more, and we have been talking to them about the possibility of that.”
