Idris Elba Stars As A DJ In A New Netflix Series Because Life’s OK Sometimes

In a move which makes far too much sense for these wild times, Netflix has announced Idris Elba will star in a brand new comedy series about a down-on-his-luck DJ given a career lifeline as a nanny.

Turn Up Charlie, which premieres on the streaming service March 15, will see the fella offered the opportunity to care for his famous mate’s sprog. We’re imagining the man many still see as the next James Bond trying to sneak an actual child into a Boiler Room set.

A slew of photos from Netflix demonstrate that scenario isn’t entirely out of the question:

The Luther star will be joined on-screen by Piper Perabo, JJ Feild, and young gun Frankie Hervey as the child who gets in the middle of it all. Idris co-created the series alongside Gary Reich, and both will serve as executive producers. Tristram Shapeero is set to EP and direct, and Matt Lipsey will also handle directorial duties.

The announcement comes not even a day after it was revealed Elba, who is an honest-to-God DJ in real life, will perform a set at this year’s stacked Coachella Festival.

If you’re unable to jet over to California to take that one in, and if two months is simply too long to wait to see Elba in action, just wrap your ears around some of Elba’s sets on YouTube.
