Tumblr Reaches Peak Internet With Infinite GIF Stream, ‘Tumblr TV’

Mark today, June 26 2015 in your diaries, comrades. Because today is the day that the internet officially peaked, never to be outdone again.

Overnight, blogging platform/GIF vortex Tumblr has launched tumblr.com/tv, a truly terrifying venture to despair over – a dedicated site to every GIF posted in the treacherous webs of Tumblr, in an endless, unrelated stream.

Tumblr described it, in a blog post:

“Never touch your computer again, because now it’s perfect forever. Or search for something and watch TUMBLR TV of whatever that something is. You’ll figure it out.” Curating your own selection of GIFs is also possible, apparently, if you “Change the URL to tumblr.com/tv/@yourblog. Now you’re the Oprah of TUMBLR TV.”

Calling the collection—that shamelessly assaults you as soon as you arrive at Tumblr TV—”unrelated” would actually be a severe understatement, all things considered. The experience is about as linear as Harmony Korine‘s brain being mashed with the entire giphy catalogue, decorated with the depths of the most obscure subreddit humour, and served up on a platter, garnished with the tears of Kanye West.

And you can’t look away.

In the mere minutes (hours? weeks?) I’ve been watching Tumblr TV, I’ve witnessed a cat drinking out of a sock, a Workaholics moment, footage from civil unrest in Quebec, a flawless Harry Potter reaction, a dude standing on his head, a glimpse of someone who I think was Selena Gomez but who may well have been anyone from the identical Disney alumni, at least fifteen Kim Kardashians crying, and a fleeting Supernatural vignette.

And you know what?
