White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who became a household name after Melissa McCarthy‘s savagely accurate impression of him on Saturday Night Live, has walked out of the job after a reported dispute with President Donald Trump.
Spicer, whose greatest hits include that time he referred to our own Prime Minister as ‘Malcolm Trumble‘, was reportedly unhappy with the hiring of former Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci as the White House’s new Communications Director.
A Republican insider claims that, when news of Scaramucci’s hiring began to spread around the President’s inner circle, Spicer met with him in the Oval Office and “basically gave an ultimatum ‘that it was him or me.’” He’s now out of a job, so I guess it’s pretty clear how that turned out.
He has since been replaced by former deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders, who read a brief statement from Trump saying that he was “grateful” for the work Spicer did for the administration.
The President’s legal team has also been shaken up this week, with the New York Post reporting that spokesman Mark Corallo, who has been a key figure in the wide-ranging investigation into Russian ties, resigned from his role on Thursday night.
There are further reports that the President’s personal attorney Marc ‘Watch Your Back, Bitch’ Kasowitz is no longer his outside counsel, with the firebrand lawyer having been demoted to some sort of “lesser role” in the team.
